Traveling This Summer? Be Sure To Prepare!

When the summer time rolls around, it’s always fun to plan a trip, a getaway, or a luxury vacation to destinations far and wide. However, while the mental preparation might be full of excitement, it’s important to manage your physical preparation too. Whether you’re planning for a month-long road trip across the country, or if you’re planning on backpacking throughout Europe, you’re going to want to get your body in shape to ensure that you can make the most out of your trip. Here are our top 4 orthopedic travel tips to prepare your body for a trip that you’ll never forget.

Stretch Each And Every Day!

Remember, a long car ride or a long plane ride can be detrimental to your muscles and joints – especially if you plan on sitting upright for an extended period of time. To help you prepare for your trip, you should be stretching your body at least twice a day. This means taking about five to ten minutes out of your morning to stretch, and doing the same thing at night.

If you’re someone who is constantly sitting at a desk all day for work, then spend 5 minutes during your lunch break to stretch and move around a bit. This will help to ensure that your long car ride or plane ride won’t leave your body hurting and aching.

Invest In Some Good Shoes

No matter if you’re going on a beach vacation or a trip through history in one of the world’s oldest cities, investing in good shoes is a must. You’ll want something with grip and support, that way you can handle everything from slippery rocks along the beach, to uneven cobble stone streets in the middle of ancient Rome.

Practice Walking

Yes, you read that right! Many people fail to realize just how much walking they do when they take a trip somewhere. More than likely, you won’t have a vehicle unless you drove yourself or rented one, which means that you’ll resort to public transportation or your own two feet to get you around your destination. Try to walk at least a mile a day to prepare your body for what is soon to come. This will ensure that you’ll be able to walk long distances without over exerting yourself during your trip.

Get Plenty of Rest!

Lastly, we cannot overstate just how important it is to get plenty of rest before your trip. Make sure that you’re getting at least 7 hours of sleep each and every night in the weeks leading up to your departure date, so that your body can recover and prepare itself for a week or two of fun and adventure.
