Stay In Shape & Have Fun In The Sun!

Summer 2021 is finally upon us, and with it comes a slew of activities that the whole family can partake in. Fun in the sun is around the corner, and that means that you’re going to want to take a dip in a cool and refreshing pool of water – whether it be the ocean, the lake, the creak, or the built-in pool in your backyard. Splash around, throw the beach ball in the air, and do a few cannonballs – but don’t forget that you can stay in shape and have fun in the sun too. Take a look down below for 4 summer swimming exercises that you can enjoy this summer.

Kickboard Workouts

If you’ve got a boogie board or a small kickboard, you can do these workouts in your pool at home. All you have to do is hold the board in front of your body about an arm’s length away. From there, tighten up your core and simply perform a simple combination of 10 flutter kicks, 10 frog kicks, and then 10 butterfly kicks. It can be quite the engaging workout, especially if you’re tightening your core for all 10 reps! But if you’re interested in an even bigger challenge, throw the kickboard on the patio and perform the same workouts while you float on your back with your arms stretched behind you.

Swimming Drills

Everyone has heard of the breaststroke and the butterfly stroke, right? Well, now it’s time to put those swimming strokes into practice. You can do this in a pool, a lake, or even the ocean at the beach. All you have to do is pick two fixed points – a starting point and an end point. Perform each of these strokes alternately as you perform laps from point A to point B. Do as many laps as you can, and if you have a waterproof watch on you, time yourself and keep track of your speed as you go.

Aqua Jogging

This one is certainly not for the beginning swimmer – you need to have a good grip on things to try aqua jogging, literally! Aqua jogging is also known as water running, and it’s a high-intensity cardio exercise that really gets your heart pumping. As long as the waterline is just below your neck, you can do this in any environment. However, keep in mind that your feed need to be firmly planted on the ground. Instead of swimming laps, you’ll try to run from two fixed points just as you would if you were running laps outdoors. Keep your back straight and your arms bent at the elbow!

Water Crunches

Lastly, try out some water crunches for a true core workout. Target your abs and get shredded for summer with a challenging workout that will certainly leave your core burning. All you have to do is stand with your back against the wall of your pool and extend your arms backwards to hold the edge of your pool. From there, lift your legs to the surface, and then extend them out in front of you. Then, try to stretch them out and form a V-shape before bringing them back together and back down straight. You’ll feel your core muscles contract and relax with each movement!

And with that, you’ve got 4 exciting swimming workouts to keep you in shape this summer.
